LDISD 3rd Annual Community Breakfast Features Dan Rather

LDISD held their 3rd Annual “Better Together” Community Breakfast on August 1 featuring special guest speaker Dan Rather. Rather, a former journalist and anchor for CBS Evening News, spoke at length about the winning idea for the 2017 Rather Prize awarded to Lake Dallas Elementary teacher Katie Landaverde.

Landaverde’s idea is to create morning workshops for students taught by community members, teachers and high school students. It gives the students a chance to explore different passions and future careers on a wide variety of subjects, while jumpstarting their day with an energizing topic that they want
to learn.

“There is nothing more important than the strength of our schools,” said Rather. “Most importantly our
public schools.”
